JOURNALS OF THOUGHTS

IS THIS A BAD DAY OR IS THIS NORMAL?

If you have spent a day in the mind of an overthinker, you’d know for certain that it is a huge cross to bear. Not only is the brain actively plotting scenerios that may never come to pass, there is also the exhaustion that comes with living out the requisite emotions following the potential negative scenerios that have been conjured.

It is funny that the brain does not seem to know the difference between made up scenerio and real life so, the suffering is the same. It is also amusing that such one can actively process that there is no preparation for horror, if we could then the concept wouldn’t need to exist, at least not in the context of horrific.

There is also the fact that there is this constant prompt to imagine all the possible ways things may come crumbling down as opposed to how everything could work out beautifully because you say to yourself, life is not a fairytale. So, it is easier to believe that bad things will sooner happen than good things. Afterall, we can all agree that life is unpredictable death aside. The question is why?

Is it that we are naturally prone to melancholy or that we need to constantly wield our mind since it is prone to wandering? or is it that we feed our mind with so much information that we are constantly overstimulated.

If you ask yourself why you believe certain things, you may be surprised to realise that most of those rationale comes from stories as opposed to experiences, at times it largely consist of intangible things but we relate to more profoundly than what exist in our reality. Today, it is almost possible to assimilate other realities as real to you because you can see it and it is happening somewhere in the world.

Take for example most of the men are scum or women are scum stories we read about, not many of us have those experiences but just reading about them opens our eyes to the various possibilities of betrayal humanly possible.

Now think of the so many other beneficial information that exist but the only ones we constantly relate to are the ones that breed fear, mistrust and more reason to believe you are better alone than trusting anybody because as it is said “men will stain your white or sho ra fun obirin ki oluwa wa pelu e (fear women, God be with you)”

There is also the erronoues belive that the more we ponder on it the higher the chances of coming up with a potential solutions for when things go south. There is no correlation for this honestly, no matter how hard you think, there is always more things to ponder about or less productively, worry.

The question is whether there ia a way to channel a wandering mind productively. Is it the need to create hierachy of order like saying you don’t need to worry about this because it is to be expected? I think most people worry because of the possibility that they may be forced to handle something beyond their control.

In truth, many things are already beyond our control even when it seems like they are not because we have a reasonable expectation of normal. Truth is normal can change at any time and there is always the possibility of creating a new normal.

I think categorization is expedient even with fear. To know when to panic and when to save one’s energy for the real fearful event.

Learning to choose your battles wisely. Not the ones you pick with others, I mean the ones you first engage with yourself. I get it though “prefreaking” makes you feel like at least you had a rehearsal for horror 😂 so when you find yourself freaking out about your entire life in 24h start with the mantra: “it’s a bad day not a bad life.”

Take this from an overthinker, life can still always shock you. May we find peace in acceptance. (This hasn’t helped me yet, but maybe you have better chances 😉).

Xoxo,
