JOURNALS OF THOUGHTS

All we have are moments

This title is interesting because it could also read: “we all have our moments” but the distinction is so succinct that even when they lead to the same path, the journeys they evoke are quite different.

When I say we all have our moments, you immediately think about maybe something positive or even a crazy point in time but when I say all we have are moments, you think of the cumulation of our individual life experiences and how tangibly or intangibly that experience may be summized.

There is a common relativity here and that is moments: what are they and how do they become what they are?

It is as simple as existing in the present and knowing that new present will come in the future and each present will come to pass.

We all go through moments sometimes without awareness until it is gone. We never really pay attention to the tipping point when we realize we are now in love with a person or a place. The moment we tasted that meal till it eventually registered as our favourite.

The moments we recognize are those that become definitive more often than not and it is usually because we have anticipation for them or we slow down and reduce the distraction from the maze to experience them. The moment we rejoice because we achieved something on our to do list, we see that person we’ve been meaning to meet with for a while, we land at our dream destination for a visit or to start a new life with all of the unknowns.

It was in a conversation when I first uttered statement: we all have our moments and this came shortly after I said that I could be as quiet as I was loquacious and that for me it was important that people close to me realize this in a way that they don’t always have to repeat to me if I was doing okay because I went quiet all of a sudden.

While experiencing this conversation, it came to me how much of these moments become how we judge ourselves. How some moments linger than others, how some are fleeting and seem to pass like a dream. The oblivious reality that we trudge in a trance.

Good moments or bad moments, happy state or sad, joyful or depressed, we never escape a moment even when we are subconscious. It so easy to encourage presence of mind in the moments but that’s one of the hardest things to do as a human because to be attentive is to be immersed, to be obsessed to a point of no distraction. Is there a summary to this?

No, if anything, this is yet another reminder that life will pass in a moment no matter the anguish, that each moment transforms into yet another, to give ourselves to moments that count, to shed ourselves from moments that shred, to positively affirm the goodness in our lives from a place that let’s us see the ugly without necessarily defining ourselves by sorrow, to constantly deconform from distractions and inhibit our presence of mind with tranquility.

Ah ha🤣, I see I lost you there. It doesn’t matter, the point is all you have is now. Make it count or count it. Nonetheless, moments are your life currency. It’s all you have to trade.

Hasta Luego😉
