JOURNALS OF THOUGHTS

EVEN GOOD THINGS CAGE

After one of my posts, someone asked me, what do you mean when you said: “What is the price you ask? it is simple, the willingness to let go, to realize that you do not have to be bond by the limitations of your belief

I realised then that I had a lot more to say about reinventing one’s self which has fast become one of my underlying themes of writing. Self editing, the pursuit of happiness, exploring self awareness and comfort in one’s skin, thought Innovation and renovation, and of course making great relationships and experiences to improve the quality of existence.

However what I meant by the phrase “you do not have to be bond by the limitations of your belief” is simply that even good ideas can become cages if we do not let ourselves room to accommodate better.

The second aspect of that phrase aside from leaving room to expand your valuable belief system, is the possibility that even good ideas can become shackles. The very ideals by which we define ourselves can become the confining element by which we limit all the manifold versions of ourselves we could encounter.

Of course, there is the literal interpretation which is to not confine one’s self elf to limiting elements of a belief system.

At the fulcrum of this ideology is the need to reinvent as many times as we choose and as many times as is necessary to fit the vision of life we hope create or recreate.

To cite an example, how do you tackle fear? How do you replace fear in your mind? Fear that things will suddenly go wrong because you have been too happy lately? Fear of death because you have suffered loss and grief? Fear of shame and embarrassment, insufficiency…

In a book I read, this character who turned out to be the child of a Fae (some powerful god) but before the discovery had lived all her life in fear, reinvented herself by behaving how a brave person she knows will behave in such fearful circumstances . Here, it was reinvention by imitation. Thus, by summoning the personality we hope for, we become.

Reinvention in this context is not just about fashioning a new version of oneself it is also about expanding an existing version of thinking or ideals. It involves questioning all the ways you are told to become a thing, all the versions of that thing that exist, till you carve out the version that suits your needs. You may not have to be everything but it is important to become a version of you that is necessary.

A lot of people may be triggered by the idea of reinvention because they fundamentally believe consistency and rigidity are the hallmark of a good character. Whereas, evolution is necessary in cataloguing development.

The question then is, should we question everything, should nothing be decided, should we not have convictions and resolutions?

Well, the goal of this post is not to help you develop a metric for living. Rather, to stir you towards an acknowledgment of the inevitability of cages. Cages are cages irrespective of whether the occupant likes them.

So if we must thrive in cages, how about dwelling in cages with enough room for growth?

Till next time,

Stay Jiggy.
