In pursuit of happiness, the pathway is different for everyone. For some, it’d be the attainment of spirituality, wealth and status, while some others, love and relationships. One category is not divested of the other.
Embedded in these pursuits is a common denominator, the trailing of pleasure, joy, and laughter.
If you’ve ever dealt with a life-changing crisis you’d quickly realise that laughter is the first thing to cease. Nothing is easily funny anymore. You may get the joke but the laughter is choked beneath all the hurdles you are trying to crawl your way through.
Eventually, when you come out on the other side, happiness invades you again. You are in equanimity, there’s a spring to your step, the laughter comes easily even when nothing is funny. All feels well again.
Our life is also a collection of sounds, the ones we make when we moan in pain, the whimpering as we cry silently on our pillows hoping our neighbour can’t hear on the other side of the wall. The groan of frustration, the stuttering of painful disbelief caused by betrayal. The sound of ecstasy when we win, when we are surprised by a friend or family, the sounds we hear others makes that evokes a pleasant reaction within us.
So, when You laugh, remember the sound of it, the belly ache from deep heartfelt laughter gone on too long.
I read this post on how to stay happy, it says make a list of all the things that make you happy, make a list of what you do every day, compare these two, and adjust accordingly.
This is a gentle reminder to LOL as often as you can, to squeeze every experience present in a joyful moment, and experience joy without waiting for the other shoe to drop because it´s life and there´d definitely be days for crying.
While you can, enjoy the days filled with laughter without guilt even in sorrow and grief.
So, while you can, curate your happy sound.
Xoxo,
