JOURNALS OF THOUGHTS

THE PARALLEL LINE BETWEEN GOOD AND BAD

Hello!!!

I think I was too enthusiastic with that greeting considering I am about to attempt a philosophical diatribe.

The concept of good and bad is as old as time itself and the understanding as evolutionary as morality.

Mathematically, parallel lines cannot meet or intersect at any point. If they do they are no longer parallel. At least that is my understanding. I am no mathematician.

This idea is not lost on humans as there are no perfectly good humans or totally bad ones either so we are all walking mathematical contradictions.

My grandmother once told me that when someone offends you it is easier to forgive them when you cast your mind back to all the good things they have done instead of their one erring moment.

You and I know that this idea is easier when one does not have to practice it. What if the person commits murder? I am not sure the family of the deceased is ready to cast their mind back or do other saintly recommendations.

Ironically, that accused person have most probably had moments of kindness. They might also have relative or kids who view them as heroes.

Why this duality?

Maybe good has to exist with bad. I saw this comment on a post shortly before I started writing this ” it is better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener at war.”

This was said in reference to the fact that everyone of us should be capable of being dangerous but also know how to control it. That is the virtue not otherwise.

Do you see where I am going with this?

There is equanimity between good and evil the place we most fondly call the “grey area.” We often stray here a lot as we enter decisions that cannot precisely be boxed with good but are not even close to being bad.

Yet, we cannot afford to stay in the greys too long because then we miss the colors that come with the ingenuity of our ideals. Although, it is easier to stay here, to live oblivious to light or dark…to exist in the void

What really is the meeting point between light and dark when each exist to perfectly exterminate the other?

Darkness has its benefits, it helps us accept ignorance because we know no better and don’t even know that we don’t know… It is complete in the assumption that ignorance is bliss but light rejects that notion and shines through darkness revealing our ignorance and we are forced to decide. Yet, no matter what we choose we can never go back to what we were ante.

Is good and bad really likable to light and dark?

Again, it seems unfair to conceptualize them as interchangeable because somehow, the magnitude or darkness seems pale in comparison to bad. Nobody readily accepts themselves as dark when they make a bad decision often they allude to making a mistake…

They are willing more often than not to climb out of that moral quagmire into the honorable congressional of humans trying to be “better” than their past.

Again, what we do may be distinguishable from who we are but somehow is an integral bit of how we are and who we become no matter the picture we have of ourselves.

I feel I am getting too deep with all these… despite veering towards the edge of these thoughts I am not sure there is going to be a glass-shattering moment where a new layer of perception will be pierced.

I think I want to surmize by saying we are bad and good, nobody is truly and inherently good that they are incapable of bad, complex dualities of opposing attractions.

We may exist in a void but we cannot thrive there. We must press into equanimity that improves the metric of good or bad within us. In essence, what is the percentage of good in you? because good and bad must exist in subservience and dominance. They cannot rule together, one must take the reins…

Till we meet again… Keep wielding your mind out of the void.
